Starting Salary: $33,517.50

Qualifications:

Master's Degree. Valid/Current New Mexico license in Guidance/Counseling.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and

acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Principal.

JOB GOAL:

The Middle School Counselor provides a comprehensive, developmental program for student’s grades 6-7. 

The Counselor structures activities to meet the needs of students; consults with teachers, staff, parents, and community agencies to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; works in harmony with school staff to promote the total middle school program. 

The Counselor helps students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning and career and vocational development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, organize and deliver school counseling program.

Implement the school guidance curriculum through the use of effective instructional skills and careful planning of structured group session for all students.

Implement the individual planning component by guiding individuals and groups of students and their parents or guardians through the development of educational and career plans.

Provides responsive services through the effective use of individual and small-group counseling, consultation, and referral skills.

Provide system support through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs.

Discuss the counseling department management system and the program action plans with the school administrator.

Responsible for establishing and convening an advisory council for the school-counseling program.

Collect and analyze data to guide program direction and emphasis.

Monitor the students on a regular basis as they progress in school.

Use time and calendars to implement and efficient program.

Develop a results evaluation for the program.

Conduct yearly program adults.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

182 to 190 contract days.  Salary and benefits commensurate with contractual

commitments.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with administrative procedures

and established contractual protocols.
