Job Goal:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of general cleaning tasks in an assigned area of the school; performs minor maintenance and repairs to school facilities; occasionally assists in other maintenance areas as assigned.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Sweeps, scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile and wood floors.

Vacuums, spot cleans, and shampoos rugs and carpets.

Washes, cleans and dusts windows, railings, walls, furniture, tables, benches, woodwork,

lockers, and equipment.

Mixes and uses chemicals for cleaning applications.

Erases and cleans chalkboards, chalk trays, and erasers.

Empties and cleans pencil sharpeners and waste containers.

Picks up papers and other refuse in building and on grounds.

Washes, scrubs and disinfects restrooms and shower rooms.

Replenishes supplies in offices, workrooms, and restrooms.

Moves or rearranges desks and other equipment as required.

Checks doors and windows for security.

Sweeps walks, entrances, and adjacent areas.

Marks, prepares, and sets up fields and other facilities for athletic and other special

events.

Reports unruly student activities, loitering, and vandalism.

Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards.

Maintains sprinkler system.

Cleans graffiti from school areas.

Paints classrooms.

Change light bulbs

Tighten bolts and screws

Tighten faucets and handles

Clean swamp coolers, change belts, pumps and pads.

Work with others in areas that do not pertain to them when other custodians are not available

Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Relevant district policies and procedures.

General safety procedures and practices.

Basic terminology, vocabulary, and craft skills used in custodial practices.

Applicable codes, regulations, and safety orders.

Basic cleaning materials, disinfectants, and equipment used in custodial work.

Record-keeping techniques.

 

ABILITY TO:

Perform cleaning and other task.

Operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning materials safely.

Understand can carry out oral and written instructions.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Read, interpret and follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Read and write in English at a level of successful job performance.

Drive and operate vehicles and equipment efficiently and safely.

Keep basic work records and make simple reports.

Perform heavy physical labor within federal and state guidelines.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

One year of custodial experience or equivalent.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize

similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. 

Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole

numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in

situations where standardization exits. 

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or

schedule form.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Drivers License desirable.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use

hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. 

The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. 

The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
