Salary: Salary and work year to be according to the current administrative schedule.

 

Qualifications:

Possesses or to be immediately eligible for a New Mexico Administrative License. 

Applicants must be motivated and competent at verbal and written communications; demonstrate a high degree of staff relations and public relations; leadership strength in curriculum, instruction, and a strong background in discipline. 

Five (5) years of administrative experience is preferred.

 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent.

 

JOB GOAL:

Assume the responsibility of the Deming Intermediate School as delegated through the Superintendent of the Deming Public Schools.

To provide leadership and administrative supervision to faculty and staff in order to enhance the educational opportunities and development of the students

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The principal is the administrative head of his school and is charged with the responsibility of providing leadership in developing the highest educational standards. 

The principal shall establish the highest ethical and professional conduct and practice in his/her building. 

He/She is expected to grow professionally, inspire his fellow teachers, and maintain a friendly and courteous attitude.

Be responsible for organization, administration and supervision within his building.

Meet deadlines on all reports required of him by the Superintendent.

Maintain a daily absentee report for all employees.  This report is to include a complete listing of substitute teachers used.

Be responsible for the building, grounds, and equipment in the school to which he is assigned, and make a complete annual inventory of textbooks, library books, equipment, and furniture and submit it to the administrative office in accordance with instruction from the superintendent.

Restrict solicitations during school hours of teachers or pupils on the part of salesmen or agents.

Help teachers and pupils achieve acceptable classroom discipline. 

The responsibility of control and supervision of students at all school-sponsored activities shall be that of the respective principal in each situation. 

Teachers shall be assigned as supervisors to provide adequately for the control of students at all school sponsored activities.

See to it that the school budget is current and up to date.  See that an accurate account is made of funds that are collected from students or from the general public.

Responsible for North Central preparation and final overall school reports.

Responsible for delegation of responsibilities in preparation of State Department of Education visits.

Assistance with overall discipline at all levels.

Head Screening Committee on screening of all students.

Work in conjunction with assistant principal to finalize all rules and regulations that govern the students.

Perform other duties in his position as directed by the Superintendent.

 

Instructional Program:

Provide the academic leadership for the instructional program.  

Work with instructional staff in developing the educational program, in determining the budget necessary to implement the program and presenting it to the Central Office administrative staff and Superintendent for their consideration and approval.

 

Certified Staff:

In conjunction with the District Human Resources Director and one assistant principal selected and recommend for employment all members of certified staff.

 

Classified Staff:

Custodial Staff - In conjunction with the Assistant Principal, recommend to the district's Human Resources Director for employment all members of the school's custodial staff.

Secretarial and Clerical Staff - Following consultation with Assistant Principal, recommend for employment all members of secretarial and clerical staff to Human Resources Director.

 

Instructional Master Schedule:

Work with guidance office staff in planning master schedule, assigning staff in instructional programs to specific instructional assignments based on certification of instructor and needs of students. 

Plan dates and procedural arrangements for student registration. 

Consider recommendations and suggestions from individuals and department chairmen in making specific assignments. 

Recommend to Director of Instruction any new course offering for Board approval.

 

Teachers Supervision and Evaluation:

Assume responsibility for supervision of instructional staff in their teaching and related assignments, evaluations of their program. 

Make suggestions and recommendations where requested or conditions dictate. 

Make required reports or recommendations relative to continued employment to Central Office administrators responsible for instructional staff.

 

Instructional Supplies and Equipment:

Work with staff in selection and requisitioning for supplies and equipment used in instructional program.

 

Textbooks:

Work with department representatives, textbook committees, and individual teachers in reviewing and evaluating available textbooks to be used in instructional program. 

Be responsible to see that an up-to-date textbook inventory is maintained and that necessary approved textbooks are ordered to meet the instructional needs. 

Be responsible to see that all necessary records are kept and reports made as directed to the Superintendent's Office and the Textbook Division of the State Department of Education.
