POSITION:                                  ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION 

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:          Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction

 

EMPLOYMENT TERM:                   240 Days

 

SALARY:  As per Salary Schedule based on experience and education level

 

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor and in accordance with the Board of Education’s policy on evaluation of administrators.

 

JOB SUMMARY: Provide assistance with direction in the areas of curriculum and instruction. To identify, research, develop, and secure new and ongoing grant funding through governments, foundation, NM Public Education, and corporate sources.  Directs a purposeful and consistent effort to communicate and publicize district topics, events, and relevant information via a variety of media outlets.

 

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates and shares in providing leadership and support in developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum and instruction within general education program areas for Deming Public Schools for all content areas
  • Collaborates and shares in maintaining a system for evaluating and selecting instructional materials;
  • Collaborates and shares in planning and coordinating Deming Public Schools Staff Development Program;
  • Collaborates and shares in establishing and implementing an improvement process for curriculum and instruction program areas;
  • Collaborates and shares in employing a program of instructional supervision and personnel management in curriculum areas and professional support areas;
  • Maintains and upgrades his/her professional skills in order to improve the school program;
  • Demonstrates instructional leadership to enhance school effectiveness by improving instruction and augmenting student performance;
  • Demonstrates cognitive skills to gather, analyze and synthesize multiple data sets to reach district goals;
  • Manages group behaviors to achieve consensus;
  • Provides leadership in the implementation of standards based instruction.
  • Collaborates and shares in providing vision and leadership of assigned Federal and Special Programs and ensures management functions are properly carried out in areas of assessment and planning, grant application and fiscal management, personnel supervision and management, and program design and management as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Director of Curriculum and Instruction;
  • Collaborates to provide Deming Public Schools grant management and administration to include:  Research and investigate potential funding sources. Write, edit, prepare, and follow-up on grant proposals to NM Public Education, foundations, corporation and government agencies. Analyze and collect data pertaining to grant programs. Monitor funding deadlines and ensure timely reporting.
  • Collaborates and shares in providing leadership, management of operational procedures and support in developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum and instruction within PreK-12 curriculum and instructional program areas in Deming Public Schools as assigned by the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction;
  • Shares in establishing purpose and direction for PreK-12 curriculum and instruction programs;
  • Prepare clear and concise reports, news releases, media advisories, and other communications as needed.
  • Create and distribute/air media regarding district activities/announcements at regular intervals as established by the Superintendent and/or Executive Director of Instruction.
  • Respond to media inquiries with accurate information.
  • Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Equivalent to completion of a master of arts degree or higher from an accredited college or university in educational administration, personnel administration, or other closely related areas.
  • Possess a New Mexico Administrative License.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a responsible public education administrative or supervisory position, including experience in personnel management, supervision and evaluation of staff, employer and employee relations, or similar areas.
  • Experience in curriculum planning, implementation and evaluation;
  • Successful grant writing experience – preferably in education.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in using multiple media sources to communicate. (Television, Radio, Social Media, Newspaper, Website, etc.)
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively with people;

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

240 days. Salary and benefits commensurate with contractual commitments.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with administrative procedures and established contractual protocols.
