SALARY: $11.148 Per Hour; Grade 14e/ Step 1

                                                                                   

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must be highly qualified which requires one of the following to be eligible for the position:

  • AA Degree or
  • 48 specific college hrs or
  • Paraprofessional test (which will be scheduled after a person is offered the position)
  • Complete application on fill

 

Job Goal:

Bil: Provides instructional and/or general clerical assistance to teachers with bilingual non-

English and low English students in classroom instruction, in a computer lab and on

campus grounds.

Sped: Provides instructional and/or general clerical assistance to teachers with special

education students in the classroom, a computer lab and on campus grounds.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Bil :Assists the teacher in the preparation of materials and activities for classroom instruction.

Assists small groups and individual students with classroom activities and activities as

directed by the teacher.

Reinforces daily language reviews, check writing journals and curriculum courses.

Supervises students in activities.

Administers and scores standardized achievement tests and informal diagnostic tests.

Assists students in learning sequential skills and adjusts individual programs as directed.

Assists the teacher in maintaining a clean, attractive and safe learning environment.

Types, files and duplicates materials for teacher's use.

Assists substitute teachers as needed.

Participates in staff meetings and in service training activities.

Assists teachers with general clerical work such as filing, photocopying, word

processing etc.

Assists students in the classroom with reading, math and other subjects.

Supervises children at recess and getting on and off the bus to ensure child safety and

that each child is accounted for.

Assists students with classroom and homework assignments.

Relieves teachers for attending professional development activities.

Reports information about a child's development and behavior to teachers.

May perform after school tutoring.

May assist children with personal hygiene needs.

May perform cleaning activities of classrooms and related areas.

Maintains safety and security of children.

May serve as Instructional Assistant in a computer lab.

Performs related duties as required.

 

Sped: Accompanies students and adapts instructional materials to special student needs.

May be assigned a single special needs student to attend to and assist.

May be required to perform feeding, distributing and administering medications,

toilet assistance, diapering, wheel chair transfers, and pushing wheelchairs to classrooms.

Assists the special education teacher in the preparation of materials and activities

for classroom instruction.

Assists small groups and individual students with classroom activities and activities.

Assists the teacher in maintaining a clean, attractive and safe learning environment.

Types, files and duplicates materials for teacher's use.

Assists with personal care needs such as diapering, feeding children, supervising

students according to their medical management plan.

Accompanies students to a mainstream setting, translating between English and Spanish.

Assists substitute teachers as needed.

Participates in staff meetings and in service training activities.

May assist students with feeding, medication and other activities of daily living.

Lifts and transfers students from and into wheelchairs.

Assists teachers with general clerical work such as filing, photocopying, word

processing etc.

Assists students in the classroom with reading, math and other subjects.

Supervises children at recess, lunch and getting on and off the bus to ensure child

safety and that each child is accounted for.

Assists students with classroom and homework assignments.

Relieves teachers for attending professional development activities.

Reports information about a child's development and behavior to teachers.

Performs related duties as required.

Actively fosters positive relationships with all staff and community .

 

Qualifications:

Applicant must be highly qualified which requires one of the following:

An associates degree or higher.

48 hours college course.

Passing the Paraprofessional test.

A complete application on file.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

English and Spanish languages.

Educational and personal care needs of students with multiple needs.

Techniques, policies and practices of child instruction.

Child discipline.

Emergency and safety procedures.

Policies and objectives of assigned programs.

Modern office practices and procedures.

School site and assigned , policies and procedures

Basic principles and techniques of education.

Correct English usage.

Operation of modern office equipment including PC and related software.

First aid and CPR

Educational needs of students with multiple needs.

 

ABILITY TO:

Perform bilingual translations for children effectively.

Perform services required for assisting students with special needs.

Prepare a variety of records and reports

Assist teachers in classroom education activities.

Supervise students at recess and entering and exiting buses.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with others

Operate a variety of modern office equipment.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Understand and follow oral and written directions

Perform routine clerical duties.

Assist with student health care needs and personal hygiene.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED certificate. 

Educational course work and prior classroom experience in special need student

settings preferred.

Current certification in CPR and First Aid training.

Substitute teachers license preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 

Ability to write simple correspondence. 

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to

students, parents  and other employees of the organization.

Ability to communicate and translate in English and Spanish.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole

numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in

written, oral, or diagram form. 

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized

situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

502 Educational Assistant K-12 License.

 

Physical Demands:
