Salary: $11.51 grade 13e step 1

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must be highly qualified which requires on of the following:

An associates degree or higher.

48 hours college course.

Passing the Paraprofessional test.

JOB GOAL:

Provides instructional and/or general assistance for teachers with students in the classroom under Title I.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Display a desire to work with students and families.

Assist parents with school related information.

Assist parents in becoming actively involved in students’ educational success.

Provide transportation for Title I parents and students as needed.

Serve as a role model.

Work as a member of a team.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Assists the teacher in the preparation of materials and activities for classroom instruction.

Participates in staff meetings and in service training activities.

Assists teachers with general clerical work such as filing, photocopying, word processing, ect.

Supervises students at recess/lunch

Assists students with classroom and homework assignments.

Reports information about a child’s development and behavior to teachers.

May perform after school tutoring.

Maintains safety and security of children/

Performs related duties as required.

Assist in the provision of all support services (food, clothing, transportation, public services, medical, dental, and optical care).

Write newsletter/translate/home visits/order supplies/transport children/translate for parents & teachers/assist parents with paperwork.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Techniques, policies and practices of children instruction.

Child discipline.

Emergency and safety procedures.

Policies and objectives of assigned programs.

Modern office practices and procedures.

School site and assigned, policies and procedures.

Basic principles and techniques of education.

Correct English usage.

Operation of modern office equipment including PC related software.

First aid and CPR.

Educational needs of students with multiple needs.

 

ABILITY TO:

Prepare a variety of records and reports.

Assist teachers in classroom educational activities.

Supervise students when needed.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with others.

Operate a variety of modern office equipment.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Perform routine clerical duties.

Assist with student health care and personal hygiene.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED certificate. Educational course work and prior classroom experience preferred, CPR and First Aid training. Substitute teacher s license preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routing reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGRISTRATIONS:

502 Educational Assistant K-12 license.
