Salary: $13.40 grade 22 step 1

 

Job Title:  Hardware Technician I

 

Summary:

This entry-level position includes the responsibility to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware for the Districts network of PC’s and peripherals. Provides first level technical support to via a wide variety of methods including telephone, online and one-on-one.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Installs hardware and peripherals and performs setups.

Performs maintenance and repair of computer and printer hardware and tests hardware parts.

Troubleshoots computer, operating systems, software applications and peripheral operations.

Supports back-up and restore operations.

Resolves equipment problems.

Installs, troubleshoots and supports related software.

Promotes user adherence to district best practices and network security policies.

Writes work requests and completes necessary documentation.

Performs inventory control, tracking DPS numbers and serial numbers where work was performed.

Initiates tech support calls with venders, replaces and returns bad parts and computer systems.

Assists instructional and administrative staff with technology issues.

Performs related duties as required by supervisor.

Knowledge Of:

  • Computer and network related hardware and equipment.
  • General electronics.
  • Business applications software.
  • Educational institutions applications software.
  • Customer Service best practices.

 

Ability to:

  • Install, maintain and operate computer hardware and equipment.
  • Setup, troubleshoot and maintain computers and peripherals.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Communicate effectively orally (in person and on the phone) as well as in writing.
  • Operate Computer software.
  • Research technical issues to find solutions that are not currently known.
  • Use a variety of leading edge technology hardware.

 

Education and Experience:

High School education or equivalent.  Experience providing school level technology support is preferred.

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the District for insurance purposes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in inside environmental conditions and regularly works with a video display terminal for prolonged periods.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock.  May be required to attend evening meetings and travel and may be required to work evenings or weekends.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
