Under direction performs specific specialized duties in school buildings and on
school grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of general maintenance including basic trouble shooting, filter changing, belt inspection and replacement, pulley inspection and replacement, general maintenance of all HVAC equipment.
May assist in the removal, cleaning and repair of exhaust fans, boilers, and commercial restaurant equipment.
Assists journeymen in installation and repair of plumbing, air conditioning,
electrical.
Monitors and controls indoor air temperatures via the internet, by computer or phone.
Lays pipe and installs conduit and wiring.
Operates vehicles and equipment.
Uses power and hand tools.
May perform minor custodial work as assigned.
Provides for safety of students and others while performing work in buildings and
on grounds.
Follows codes and regulations in performance of assignments.
Observes conditions in buildings and on grounds and reports unsafe conditions.
Maintains records and reports.
Responds to emergency and other calls for assistance.
Monitors activity on school grounds and in buildings and reports unusual or
suspicious activity.
May be asked to perform work with the carpentry, grounds or other trades as needed.
Performs related work as required.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Experience in HVAC desirable.
Willingness to continue education in HVAC required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routing reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid New Mexico Drivers License.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by
an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand;
walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or
hear. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The
employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must squat, stoop
or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses
hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently
bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing
the duties of this job.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning
supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or
move up to 90 lb. The employees will sometimes push/pull items such as tables,
bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include
close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to
adjust focus. The employee will continually be required to perform their work in an outdoor environment which includes extreme heat or cold.
