Job Description:
LIBRARY MEDIA TECHNICIAN
JOB GOAL:
Under general direction provides progressive opportunities for the use of library materials and
services and motivates student’s interests through providing a supportive library environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Checks library materials our and in, including books, audio and visual materials and computer
software.
Shelves returned materials.
Assists students in locating materials of interest to them and provides research materials.
Assists students in finding the materials for the Accelerated Reader program.
Assists teachers in identifying and locating materials.
Repairs damaged books.
Sends out past dir notices.
Conducts audiovisual storytelling sessions for students.
Records new books in the library database; maintains database and card filing system.
Places barcodes and cards in books for circulation.
Maintains the library in an orderly manner.
Monitors student behavior in the library.
Inventories library materials.
Performs data entry regarding students and staff into library database.
May perform minor maintenance and repair of audiovisual equipment.
Nay order books and other materials.
May assist teachers in the classroom.
Prepares reports on library activity.
Removes old materials from circulation.
Computer knowledge: Microsoft Word; Power Point.
Internet knowledge.
Tutor students as assigned.
May supervise students at lunch recess.
Conduct audiovisual storytelling sessions for students when teachers ask.
Monitors various accounts of funds for library materials.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QULIFICATIONS:
Applicant must be highly qualified which requires one of the following:
An associate degree or higher.
48 hours college course.
Passing the Paraprofessional test.
A complete application on file.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent; prior library experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions,
percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,
or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 502 Educational Assistant K-12 license.
