Position:                        Social Worker

 

This position is a limited-time position funded by Family Income Index until school year 2023, with a potential extension until 2024 pending additional funding if available.

General Job Description: 

Provides direct and indirect social work services to students and/or their families to support the social and emotional well-being students in order to remove barriers which may be interfering with their academic performance.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

  • Valid Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) from NM Board of Social Work Examiners
  • Eligible for Licensure by the New Mexico Public Education Department.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Master's degree in social work from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • At least two-years of experience working with children and families with social or emotional needs.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability in delivering behavioral support services and social work services within the framework of established laws, school policies, procedures, and priorities.
  • Current First Aid / CPR certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention) trained

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The school social worker shall demonstrate professional knowledge and skills in dealing with social phenomena as they relate to students' functioning and achievement in school.

 

The school social worker shall establish basic case management procedures for effective social work intervention.

 

The school social worker shall structure the method of social intervention by appropriate planning and preparation.

 

The school social worker shall employ appropriate methods of practice which enables students and families to function adequately within their educational and community settings.

 

The school social worker shall demonstrate a professional and helpful demeanor in relationships with students, parents, and school personnel.

 

The school social worker shall utilize appropriate methods to continuously evaluate the student's services.

 

The School Social Worker complies with the approved Code of Ethics and Standards for School Social Work Services of the National Association of Social Workers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling and squatting, climbing stairs, speaking and listening, reaching with hands and arms, having full mobility of fingers/hands to finger, handle or feel, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, carrying, lifting, and moving up to 25 pounds and/or moving light furniture may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

  1. Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions.
  2. Some districtwide and statewide travel.
  3. Occasional and prolonged and irregular working hours.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise and temperature.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.  After hour work may be required. 

May make site visits as needed.  May work under stressful conditions on occasion.

Salary and work year according to current calendar/schedule

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with administrative procedures and established contractual protocols.
