Qualifications:

1. Valid/current New Mexico teaching license

2. Gifted Education endorsement or willingness to pursue/complete all endorsement requirements via endorsement waiver

             

Reports to: Director of Special Education

Job Goal: Facilitate the implementation and delivery of gifted education services and the documentation of those services at the assigned school site(s) to be incompliance with state and federal guidelines and district policies

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Support the district philosophy of Gifted Education
-Maintain knowledge about current gifted and special education legal requirements and work to assure district compliance
-Ensure compliance with Child Find requirements and work with SAT supervisor to facilitate appropriate identification of gifted students   
-Conduct testing as needed to identify gifted students
-Conduct monitoring of student progress in order to determine effectiveness of IEP goals as well as instruction
-Provide instruction to gifted students in compliance with their IEP

- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative procedures
-Maintain confidentiality of all gifted students

-Serve as resource to all district personnel, the Board and Public regarding gifted education
-Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings well in advance of due dates
-Complete progress reports each grading period for each IEP goal and based on data
-Pursue current knowledge about federal and state funding issues and requirements for gifted    students
-Consult with parents to provide information and problem-solve gifted education issues
-Attend national, state and other professional development as required to maintain current gifted education and knowledge
- Manage a case load of gifted students

- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
-Work collaboratively with staff and administrators to support staff make sure all accommodations and supports are provided per the IEP
-Demonstrate appropriate communication with the Sped Director regarding concerns, questions and general information about the gifted program

-Maintain and improve professional competence

- Plan a program of student success that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of student
- Prepare for students assigned and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor
- Takes all necessary and responsible precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
-Perform other duties as assigned


Reasoning ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Machines, Tools, and Equipment

Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed. (Various machines and equipment including but not limited to computer, iPad, printer, scanner, or copier)

 

Safety and Health:

              Knowledge of universal hygiene precaution (blood borne pathogens, body fluids, etc.)

 

Physical Demands:
 
             The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met
               by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing 
              the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and reach
              with arms and hands, use hands and fingers to write, type and handle. The employee is
              frequently required to listen and speak. Employee must be able to lift and/or move up
              to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral and
              color vision. Depth perception and ability to focus vision are required.

-Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions.
-Some districtwide and statewide travel possible.
-Occasional prolonged and irregular working hours

 

Work Environment

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise and temperature. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hour work may be required. May make site visits as needed. May work under stressful conditions on occasion

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with administrative procedures and established contractual protocols. Primary evaluator will be the Director of Special Education.
