SALARY: Appropriate step on salary schedule. BA Degree:

             Level 1 Teacher - $42,846.14

             Level 2 Teacher - $52,262.15

             Level 3 Teacher - $62,462.39

                           

QUALIFICATIONS:

              BA/BS Degree (minimum)

              Valid/current New Mexico Teaching License with appropriate endorsement.

qualifications:

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree

Valid/current New Mexico teaching license with appropriate endorsement. Such

alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate

and acceptable.

 

REPORTS TO:

           Building Principal/Special Education Director.

 

JOB GOAL:

To help students learn subject matter and life skills that will contribute to their

development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.

             

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Participates in the IEP process by attending IEP meetings, collaborating with IEP team

members, preparing IEP paperwork, and delivering instruction to enable students to make

IEP goal progress and documentation of that progress.

Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

Plans a program of student success that meets the individual needs, interests, and

abilities of student.

Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the

maturity and interests of the students in their least restrictive environment.

Prepares for students assigned and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon

request of immediate supervisor.

Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior

Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, and, in

congruency with those goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and

projects to communicate said objectives to students.

Employs a variety of instructional techniques, technology and instructional media,

consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and

capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and

instructional goals and objectives.

Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress

reports as required.

Diagnoses the instructional needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of

district specialists as required.

Takes all necessary and responsible precautions to protect students, equipment, materials,

and facilities.

Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and

administrative procedures.

Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life

and conduct, and, for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and

procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related

purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under

reasonable terms.

Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for educational assistants and/or

volunteer(s).

Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as appropriate to the individual school

site or district.

Give support to parents by providing resources to further the health and education of

their child.

Closely monitors student behaviors and reports daily to parents on student progress

as needed.

Collaborates with all outside therapists (physical, occupational, psychologists,

counselors) and government agencies that are involved in the student’s life.

Completes all duties assigned (morning, lunch, bus)

Plus all duties and responsibilities of the Elementary teacher.

As a special education case manager is responsible for making sure all regular education

teachers receive modifications/accommodations for students on their case load.

Monitors to make sure teachers implement modifications/accommodations.

Collects and turns in progress reports to Sped Coordinator as well as sends copy to

parents each grading period as required by law.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met

by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use

hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. 

The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. 

The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color

vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

182 days.  Salary and benefits commensurate with contractual commitments.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with administrative procedures

and established contractual protocols.
