Job Goal:

To prepare and serve a variety of quality foods to students at school food service sites under optimal sanitary conditions, and comply with United States Department of Agriculture, New Mexico Public Education Department, Southwest Training Systems, and New Mexico Environment Department regulations.  

                       

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares for breakfast and lunch services at sites.
  • Loads and unloads truck.
  • Cleans up and returns materials and undistributed foods.
  • Supervises student workers.
  • Performs one or several food service operations including general kitchen help, cafeteria serving, assisting in food preparation, or other related duties.
  • Maintains personal hygiene and hygienic serving conditions in accordance with the New Mexico environmental code.
  • Operates a variety of food preparation and service equipment.
  • Sets up & breaks down steam tables, serving lines for breakfast and lunch.
  • Performs daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are met.
  • Maintains order and safety in the kitchen and cafeteria.
  • Washes dishes and trays, cleans, sweeps, and mops food service areas.
  • Completes and maintains records such as temperature logs and student meal counts.
  • Oversees students assisting with food service.
  • Do daily laundry.
  • May operate food delivery vehicles during summer lunch program; may need to pick up and load the truck for deliveries.
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Safe driving principles and practices.
  • District geography and locations of food serving sites.
  • Food service sites and delivery schedules.
  • Basics of food service operations.
  • Modern food service equipment.

 

ABILITY TO:

  • Safely drive and operate a food delivery vehicle.
  • Work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.
  • Perform jobs and communicate in a noisy environment.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge and abilities as described are acceptable to meet education and experience requirements.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Drivers License for the operation of a school vehicle.
  • Health certifications for food handling as required.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Civil rights training.
  • Mandated district training.
