POSITION:                                       DISTRICT SAFETY MANAGER

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:           Director of Safety 

 EMPLOYMENT TERM:                  240 Days

SALARY:                                           Administrative Schedule based on Certification, Training, and Experience

                                                                Minimum: $64,000

 

EVALUATION:                           Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with administrative procedures and established contractual protocols.

 

JOB SUMMARY:         Assist Director of Safety in the day-to-day operations, ensuring district compliance to state safety regulations and safety support to district schools and facility sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Department Clerical duties including, but not limited to:
    1. Compliance with procurement code.
    2. Obtain quotes from vendors.
    3. Enter purchase requisitions, process purchase orders, check in materials received, keep inventory, manage POs related to operational funds supporting the activities of the Department of Safety, etc.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship and interact professionally with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct inspections at District sites and make compliance recommendations independently.
  • Assist Safety Director with department communications.
  • Assist the Safety Director while performing facility evaluations and create supporting documentation, safety, and security reports for the District.
  • Assist in Creating safety materials for the District.
  • Assist in conducting fire and code drills, the critique and instruction of safety procedures for students and staff.
  • Support the crisis response plan and incident management.
  • Work with vendors and contracted services related to area of responsibility, as applicable.
  • Assist the Safety Director and district staff in areas of improvement and refinement regarding all aspects of District safety.
  • Support District coordinated efforts with city, regional, and state authorities.
  • Respond to incidents occurring at District facilities involving safety.
  • Create and maintain district documents relating to school safety.
  • Assist Director of Safety and district administration with the development of, edit and implementation of District Safety Plan.
  • Attend professional growth activities in safety and security as needed/required.
  • Support department operations as assigned.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Follows district and school rules, guidelines, regulations, and policies.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE OF OR WILLINGNESS TO OBTAIN TRAINING/CERTIFICATION IN:

  • Principles and procedures related to school safety management, emergency management and response practices of school safety analysis techniques.
  • Current in reference to effective strategies for increasing school safety.
  • Current in fire safety instruction and inspections.
  • Knowledgeable of Safety guidelines for playgrounds.
  • Highly organized with attention to details.
  • Effective communication through a variety of modalities.
  • Specific duties in and functions of an assigned office.
  • Must be computer literate as well as ability to operate office equipment and various job-related software applications.
  • Department and district operations and policies.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Telephone etiquette.
  • Basic record keeping.

ABILITY TO:

  • Create safety/maintenance/construction reports for district/state requirements.
  • Prioritize schedule work and meet timelines.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Operate a computer and related software.
  • Organize and coordinate office activities.
  • Compose correspondence independently.
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings/training.
  • Prepare and maintain database and files.
  • Perform clerical work & administrative tasks.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); 3-5 years verifiable related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Fire Service training preferred.
    • Building Inspection preferred.
    • Safety Instruction preferred.
    • Security training preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance

instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole

numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in

written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized

situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met

by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use

hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear.

    • The employee must be able to walk, stand, bend, squat, move and reach with hands and arms.  Average miles walked per day is three or more.
    • The employee must have the ability to regularly lift and/or move a minimum of 25 pounds up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color

vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
